The bridging behavior and redox mechanisms of liquid crystalline octahedral iron(III) complexes (such as the anhydrous complex below) were studied in detail by polarization microscopy, DSC, and Mössbauer spectroscopy. We gained great insight into the changes in molecular structure, and describe here a new type of magnetic short-range order in liquid crystals.
