Abstract

Mesoporous MoO2 with electron- and Li+-conductive ability is first used as the matrix to encapsulate sulfur. MoO2 not only improves the electron conductivity of insulating sulfur, but also entraps polysulfides in the cathode through strong binding interactions at the MoO2/sulfur interfaces. The covalent stabilization of sulfur is more effective than physical adsorption stabilization of sulfur in a carbon host.
