A double antibody radioimmuno-assay has been developed to measure porcine luteinizing hormone (LH). Porcine follicle-stimulating hormone, porcine thyroid-stimulating hormone, or the components of serum per se did not appear to influence the assay. The levels of LH could be reliably measured at any time during the estrous cycle in 200 x002F;l of serum. A peak in serum levels of LH occurred on the day of estrus when blood samples were obtained at daily intervals. The peak in levels of LH coincided with the onset of estrus when serum samples were collected and checks for estrus were made at 4-hr intervals. (Endocrinology 87: 576, 1970)
