Abstract

With the help of the Pell sequence we obtain the following new congruence for odd primes: <disp-formula content-type="math/mathml"> \[ <mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" alttext="sigma-summation Underscript k equals 1 Overscript left-parenthesis p minus 1 right-parenthesis slash 2 Endscripts StartFraction 1 Over k dot 2 Superscript k Baseline EndFraction identical-to sigma-summation Underscript k equals 1 Overscript left-bracket 3 p slash 4 right-bracket Endscripts StartFraction left-parenthesis negative 1 right-parenthesis Superscript k minus 1 Baseline Over k EndFraction left-parenthesis mod p right-parenthesis period"> <mml:semantics> <mml:mrow> <mml:munderover> <mml:mo movablelimits="false"> ∑ </mml:mo> <mml:mrow class="MJX-TeXAtom-ORD"> <mml:mi>k</mml:mi> <mml:mo>=</mml:mo> <mml:mn>1</mml:mn> </mml:mrow> <mml:mrow class="MJX-TeXAtom-ORD"> <mml:mo stretchy="false">(</mml:mo> <mml:mi>p</mml:mi> <mml:mo> − </mml:mo> <mml:mn>1</mml:mn> <mml:mo stretchy="false">)</mml:mo> <mml:mrow class="MJX-TeXAtom-ORD"> <mml:mo>/</mml:mo> </mml:mrow> <mml:mn>2</mml:mn> </mml:mrow> </mml:munderover> <mml:mrow class="MJX-TeXAtom-ORD"> <mml:mfrac> <mml:mn>1</mml:mn> <mml:mrow class="MJX-TeXAtom-ORD"> <mml:mi>k</mml:mi> <mml:mo> ⋅ </mml:mo> <mml:mrow class="MJX-TeXAtom-ORD"> <mml:msup> <mml:mn>2</mml:mn> <mml:mi>k</mml:mi> </mml:msup> </mml:mrow> </mml:mrow> </mml:mfrac> <mml:mo> ≡ </mml:mo> <mml:munderover> <mml:mo movablelimits="false"> ∑ </mml:mo> <mml:mrow class="MJX-TeXAtom-ORD"> <mml:mi>k</mml:mi> <mml:mo>=</mml:mo> <mml:mn>1</mml:mn> </mml:mrow> <mml:mrow class="MJX-TeXAtom-ORD"> <mml:mo stretchy="false">[</mml:mo> <mml:mn>3</mml:mn> <mml:mi>p</mml:mi> <mml:mrow class="MJX-TeXAtom-ORD"> <mml:mo>/</mml:mo> </mml:mrow> <mml:mn>4</mml:mn> <mml:mo stretchy="false">]</mml:mo> </mml:mrow> </mml:munderover> <mml:mrow class="MJX-TeXAtom-ORD"> <mml:mspace width="thickmathspace"/> <mml:mfrac> <mml:mrow class="MJX-TeXAtom-ORD"> <mml:mrow class="MJX-TeXAtom-ORD"> <mml:msup> <mml:mrow class="MJX-TeXAtom-ORD"> <mml:mo stretchy="false">(</mml:mo> <mml:mo> − </mml:mo> <mml:mn>1</mml:mn> <mml:mo stretchy="false">)</mml:mo> </mml:mrow> <mml:mrow class="MJX-TeXAtom-ORD"> <mml:mi>k</mml:mi> <mml:mo> − </mml:mo> <mml:mn>1</mml:mn> </mml:mrow> </mml:msup> </mml:mrow> </mml:mrow> <mml:mi>k</mml:mi> </mml:mfrac> </mml:mrow> <mml:mspace width="1em"/> <mml:mspace width="0.667em"/> <mml:mo stretchy="false">(</mml:mo> <mml:mi>mod</mml:mi> <mml:mspace width="0.333em"/> <mml:mi>p</mml:mi> <mml:mo stretchy="false">)</mml:mo> <mml:mo>.</mml:mo> </mml:mrow> </mml:mrow> <mml:annotation encoding="application/x-tex">\sum \limits _{k = 1}^{(p - 1)/2} {\frac {1}{{k \cdot {2^k}}} \equiv \sum \limits _{k = 1}^{[3p/4]} {\;\frac {{{{( - 1)}^{k - 1}}}}{k}} \quad \pmod p.}</mml:annotation> </mml:semantics> </mml:math> \] </disp-formula>
