Migration in nineteenth-century New York State is analyzed using data from the 1855 state census. This census included a question on consecutive years of residence in the town or city of enumeration. The author first examines the quality of the data and finds them accurate. The resulting estimates of migration are compared with estimates made using nominal record linkage. (ANNOTATION)
