. The deformation of the earth by the luni-solar tide-generating forces alters the moments of inertia of the earth and thereby causes periodic variations in the rate of rotation, which introduce inequalities in the measure of time determined by the rotation. The cumulative effects of the larger long-period components with periods up to one year have been detected by observation with the aid of accurate clocks. In this paper, all long-period inequalities with ampli- tudes as great as 0.10 millisecond are computed, and are listed in Table I.
