Williams has again hit th target with the third edition of his textbook. Adequate and accurate in its theory, pragmatic in its application, it is one of the handful of textbooks which can be commended to one and all. I recommend the third edition for those who bought the first or the second, for this latest edition is, in fact, like a new book. New contributors have written about three-quarters of it, and most of the remainder has been rewritten. All the contributors have managed to keep a balance between the old and the new and have made their reference lists selective rather than exhaustive. The value of this book has always been that the authors have selected and interpreted the facts.
