Abstract

The solvated barium titanium glycolate BaTi(C2H4O)3·4C2H6O·H2O forms a preceramic powder upon calcination in air at 900 °C that sinters to polycrystalline BaTiO3 at 1300 °C (see inset). The precursor is easily prepared using benchtop procedures from inexpensive starting materials and yields ceramic BaTiO3 having good electrical properties (K‘ = 2260, loss tan δ = 0.01 at 1 V/cm, 1 kHz, 25 °C).
