Abstract The conditions for upstream flame propagation from a plane heat source were used for the calculation of the laminar burning velocity in a one-dimensional liquid fuel spray. Calculations were carried out for sprays where the burning was heterogeneously controlled through the transition to premixed gas behavior. The effect of fuel concentration, droplet size, and upstream temperature on the burning velocity were examined. Agreement was satisfactory between calculated results and existing experimental and theoretical data using tetralin sprays.
