Abstract

Gilligan and Attanucci in their study on sex differences in moral orientation (Merrill-Palmer Quarterly, July 1988) chose an important topic in need of sys tematic and substantive research. But the design and sample of their investiga tion has compromised the significance of their findings. Although questions of the relationships between orientation, age, stage, and sex were not considered in their study, at this juncture of research and theory such relationships should be the very issues in any investigation of Gilligan's ideas.
