Abstract

Oral Interpretation as double bind describes a specific communicational act wherein an aesthetic text is created in the ongoing system of literature, performer, and audience relationships. Double bind defines oral interpretation as ambiguous and paradoxical embodiment. The explication of creative double bind accomplishes a reciprocal analysis: we articulate the communicative dimensions of oral interpretation and we suggest how double bind theory can embrace aesthetic experience.
