Pedal infusion of intravenous contrast material has been recommended for better visualization of the inferior vena cava. A possible pitfall of this technique is demonstrated and is felt to represent a flow phenomenon due to rapid flow from the renal or common iliac veins. Delayed scanning or possibly repeat scanning after bolus injection of intravenous contrast medium may be helpful to rule out the possibility of true tumor thrombus.
