Abstract

Upsetting-sliding tests (USTs) were used to characterize the performance of a zinc phosphate/stearate coated 1035 steel under wire drawing conditions. Adjustments to the test were made in order to simulate contact pressures and effective plastic strains representative of the forming process. The mean Coulomb friction coefficient calculated from the UST analysis led to very good agreement between experimental and numerical results. It is shown that the damage mechanisms of the coating after drawing and after UST are similar.
