Experiments are described demonstrating the existence in normal individuals of diurnal variations in acuity of the sense of taste for sodium chloride. Freely selected meals were found to be preceded by a period of increasing and followed by one of decreasing acuity of that sense. When meals had been omitted the decrease in acuity failed to occur.
