Recovery of Epstein–Barr Virus from Genital Ulcers

Abstract

INFECTIOUS mononucleosis is the best-known syndrome associated with primary infection by the Epstein–Barr virus (EBV). A variety of cutaneous and mucosal manifestations are recognized, but genital lesions have only rarely been described in infectious mononucleosis.1 , 2 We describe an otherwise healthy young woman in whom painful genital ulcers developed during an episode of serologically and virologically confirmed primary infectious mononucleosis.
