Abstract

Whilst the mass media fashion has pushed sociology into a type of « media-centrism », Schlesinger aims at reexamining the study of journalism by looking at the question of sources and their relation to the medium used. After having reviewed existing works (structuralist, empiricist), the author creates his own model, taking into account the strategy of the media and the structure of their capital, both financial and symbolic. He completes his demonstration by broadening the subject to a new study of the position of information in society, bearing in mind requirements which he defines, and a decentering of the subject - all too often focussed on the media themselves, isolated from their sources.
