The types of ulcerative colitis which may be diagnosed initially by radiological methods are described. The limitations of barium enemas in early diagnosis are stressed. Mucosal thickening as well as ulceration produces serration of the margin of the colon. A sign of ulcerative colitis, corrugation of the colon, is presented. It is believed to be an abnormality of muscular haustration. Illustrative cases are described.
