Synthesis and Structure of an Arylcalcium Compound with an Unusual Calcium Tetrahedron Containing an Encapsulated Oxide

Abstract

The attempted synthesis of homoleptic bis(2,6-dimethoxyphenyl)calcium reproducibly yielded a crystalline product of composition Ar6Ca4O, in which the Ca2+ ions span a tetrahedron, the six aryl ligands bridge the vertices, and O2- occupies the center.
