Abstract

Abstract The monohydrates of the sulphates of bivalent Mg, Ni, Cu, Co, Fe, Zn, Mn and some of the corresponding selenates have been prepared and the unit cell dimensions tabulated. All except the copper compounds have the monoclinic MgSO 4 ·1H 2 O (Kieserite) structure. CuSO 4 ·1H 2 O and CuSeO 4 ·1H 2 O have a very similar triclinic crystal structure. The lattice parameters of CoSO 4 ·1H 2 O have been determined by a least square refinement with 73 powder X‐ray reflections, and the interatomic distances and angles are given. It is shown that these monohydrates are not to be formulated as salts MeH 2 SO 5 of a «meso sulfuric acid».
