Abstract Protein solutions exposed to porous glass membranes are rapidly depleted of protein. The proteins do not migrate through the membrane, but become trapped at the channel walls. Surface deactivation of porous glass can be accomplished by treatment with methyl trimethoxysilane or γ‐aminopropyl triethoxysilane. Bacitracin slowly transferred through a surface deactivated porous glass membrane.
