Abstract

Fetal gastric emptying occurs by the beginning of the second trimester, contributing to AF regulation. The increased frequency of gastric emptying in late gestation is likely secondary to increased swallowing, altered fetal behavioral state or endogenous production of gastrointestinal motility factors.
