Abstract A survey carried out by the authors in the West Midlands area of England found that use of, and access to, community pharmaceutical services appeared to be lower among ethnic minority customers than in the majority population, although their needs were probably higher. The survey has been published in full elsewhere. In this article, the authors summarise the main results of their survey, and compare these with the results from a similar study involving respondents predominantly from the white population. They also discuss some of the methodological difficulties in carrying out research into ethnic minority health issues.
