Containing anionic and neutral coordination environments, a multidentate bis(ketoester) oligoether ligand self-assembles with two barium cations to form a helical supramolecular species (shown in the picture). This new complex represents both the first example of a charge-neutral, quadruply stranded helical catenate and the first example of a structurally characterized helicate containing a Group 2 element.
