Zirconium sheet was heated in carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, hydrogen, sulfur dioxide, propane, and steam at atmospheric pressure. Weight changes and tensile properties were determined, metallographic structures discussed, and safe heating temperatures for the metal exposed to the various gases deduced.
