On the amination of 3‐nitro‐1,8‐naphthyridines

Abstract

Abstract A number of 3‐nitro‐2‐X‐1,8‐naphthyridines (X = H,Cl,NH 2 ,OE t ) were successfully aminated into the corresponding 4‐amino‐3‐nitro‐2‐X‐naphthyridines, using liquid ammonia and potassium permanganate as reagents. 4‐Amino‐1,4‐dihydro‐3‐nitro‐2‐X‐1,8‐naphthyridines are the actual species being oxidized by the potassium permanganate; their existence has been by 1 H nmr spectroscopy.
