Abstract

Impressive architecture, important activity! Noduliprevenone (shown here) is a unique marine fungal polyketide, incorporating two unusual chromanone subunits. The absolute configuration was assigned by using a combination of CD spectroscopy, NOE interactions and Mosher's method. Noduliprevenone was found to be an inhibitor of P450 (CYP1 A), and concomitantly induces NAD(P)H:quinone reductase (QR). This modulation of xenobiotic metabolism suggests noduliprevenone to be a cancer chemopreventive agent. Detailed facts of importance to specialist readers are published as ”Supporting Information”.
