Abstract

Considerable data have been accumulated on the nature of steroids found in human blood. the author feels it unnecessary to try to give an extensive survey of the literature, which has been covered by several review articles and monographs. of these, the following are mentioned: Antoniades H.N., Ed. Hormones in Human Plasma, Little, Brown and Company, Boston, 1960. Gray C. H. and Bacharach A. L., Eds. Hormones in Blood, Academic Press, New York, 1961. Regarding the metabolism of conjugated androgens particular note is made to Baulieu E. E., Corpéchot C, Dray F., Emiliozzi R., Lebeau M.-C.,Mauvais-Jarvis P. & Robel R. in Recent Progress in Hormone Research 21 (1965) 411, and Dorfman R. I. and Ungar F.: Metabolism of Steroid Hormones, Academic Press, New York, 1965. The literature related to gas-liquid chromatography of steroids has been covered by several review articles. of these are mentioned: VandenHeuvel, W. J. A., & Horning, E. C. in Biomedical Applications of Gas Chromatography, Ed. H. A. Szymanski, Plenum Press, New York, 1964, p. 89. Lipsett M. B., Ed. Gas Chromatography of Steroids in Biological Fluids, Plenum Press, New York, 1965 In the following a brief review is presented on some of the literature closely related to the current study.
