Nickel(II) complexes with N-heterocyclic carbenes are accessible through substitution of triphenylphosphine in NiX2(PPh3)2 (X = Cl, Br) by the free carbenes or by in situ deprotonation of the corresponding azolium salts with Ni(OAc)2 as the starting material. 1H and 13C NMR as well as X-ray crystallographic data are discussed.
