Abstract

This paper proposes and implements a new 24/16-pole low speed doubly salient electro-magnetic wind-power generator (DSEWG).The special problem about the low speed DSEWG with large quantity of winding turns-in-series is pointed out. The armature reaction and inductance properties of doubly salient wind power generator are studied by 2-D FEA, and the output characteristics of the DSEWG with different winding turns is analyzed by field-circuit coupled method. A 2kW prototype machine is developed, and experimentation is given to verify the validity of theoretical analysis and simulation results. It shows that the high inductance of low speed DSEWG may result in the great commutation voltage loss of the rectifier, so proper reduction of the armatue windings turns-in-series won't decrease the output power of low speed DSEWG.
