S ummary . It is suggested thai; a limited temperature tolerance in the early stages of Calliphora erythrocephala , as compared with Lucilia sericata , is the reason for this species not being a serious pest of sheep. Experiments to discover the numbers of eggs laid by females of Lucilia sericata , and the length of the larval, prepupal, and pupal stages are described. The detailed records of strikes in an Aberdeenshire flock throughout the 1933 and 1934 seasons are analysed; and the figures shown to agree with results obtained in other parts of Britain.
