Current Sheet in a Coaxial Plasma Gun

Abstract

Magnetic- and electric-probe measurements have been made on the thin current layer which is accelerated in a coaxial (Marshall) plasma gun. It is found that this layer does not act as a ``snowplow,'' but rather has the character of a strong shock wave.
