In 1943, Lindsay, Templeton, and Rothman (2) described the roentgenographic changes of atony and apparent spasm of the cardia in scleroderma. Since then, hypomotility of the esophagus has become established as an early and quite characteristic change in scleroderma (3, 4).This study was undertaken to explore the sclerodermatous process in the esophagus by correlating physiologic and pathologic changes. The investigation is divided into 3 parts: [1] a determination of the pathologic changes present in the esophagus in...References1. EHRMAN S: Quoted by LEINWAND, I., DURYEE, A. W., RICHTER, M.
