Abstract A quantum theory of spontaneous γ‐quantum radiation by relativistic channelled particles is developed. Planar channelling of positrons and axial channelling of electrons are considered. The calculation results are in a good agreement with classical estimates. Population of the levels is studied and the conditions of spontaneous radiation are analyzed in detail. It is shown that, when the transitions between the lower levels are considered, one may limit oneself to the solution of the problem for a single potential well since in this case the neighbouring wells fail practically to affect the calculation results. The effect of the potential unharmonism on spectral distribution is estimated.
