Summary. The physiology of birds in flight is discussed in relation to (a) energy metabolism; (b) heat regulation, including the importance of the ventral part of the wing and its temperature, measured in a bird gliding in a specially constructed wind tunnel; and (c) cardio‐vascular responses, measured in flying birds by telemetric methods.
