Abstract

Better understanding of the work of general practice is needed because family doctors are not only acutely concerned about their purpose and how best to achieve it, they are also prisoners of their personal experience with difficulties in appreciating how this compares with that of their peers. The public also, as consumers, expect more from general practice as standards of living rise.
