FRIENDS OF MY FRIENDS... MOBILIZATION OF RURAL COMMUNITIES IN CORSICA The example of rural communities in Corsica shows that social figures lend sense to their political pratices through symbols of friendship and devotion. In their discourse and public ritual, they thus offer an idealized representation of their relations, while symbolically denying the self-interest inherent to exchanges with their clientele.
