Abstract

This paper describes the use of a set of finite element programs called KANTHAM [1] as a teaching tool in both undergraduate and graduate classes. The programs are highly interactive and the graphics-based pre- and postprocessing is designed to give the student a feel for electromagnetic fields. While one program solves both electrostatic and magnetostatic fields, others solve for eddy current and radiation fields. Several computer exercises using the programs are suggested, to accompany classroom lectures and the traditional analytical problem assignments
