Abstract

The Empress Group comprises interbedded gravel, sand, silt, and clay occurring between till and bedrock in southern Saskatchewan. These sediments were laid down as fluvial, lacustrine, and colluvial deposits on the bedrock surface prior to and during glaciation. In the reference area the group comprises 2 units: a lower unit of quartzite and chert gravel and an upper unit of interbedded gravel, sand, silt, and clay. The Empress Group is Late Tertiary to Quaternary in age.
