This Paper describes the developmental work undertaken to enable the measurement of the water vapour permeability of a curing membrane and shows that a single-cell transmission test method which is inexpensive, versatile andeasy to operate can be usede effectively for this purpose. The water vapour permeability of a curing menzbrane determines that mernbrane's intrinsic moisture retention characteristic and is shown to provide a more reliable peyformance indicator for membrane curing of concrete than the commonlJ1 used curing efficiency index, which is an empirical and relative value that depends on a particular test method and measuring system.
