A small, battery-operated hydrogen leak detector using a palladium-gate MOS transistor as sensing element has been developed. It is shown to have a sensitivity of 1 ppm hydrogen in air and response and recovery times of a few seconds. The fast response was obtained by operating the sensing element at 150 °C.
