The Space Charge Problem

Abstract

A space charge problem arising in modelling steady electric field in a neighborhood of an ionising conductor is considered. Mathematically, the problem reduces to a system consisting of one elliptic equation and one nonlinear hyperbolic equation. The existence of a weak solution is proved and its properties are studied, in part rigorously and in part heuristically and numerically.
