A contribution to the taxonomy of <i>Arctostaphylos uva-ursi</i>

Abstract

The infraspecific taxa of Arctostaphylos uva-ursi are reevaluated with respect to the pubescence of the young branches, chromosome number, and phenolics. It is concluded that the best taxonomic treatment for the time being is to recognize four taxa at the subspecies level, ssp. uva-ursi, ssp. adenotricha, ssp. stipitata, and ssp. longipilosa, the two latter being new taxa not previously described.
