Abstract

The clinical and pathological data for a patient presenting with focal signs of an expanding lesion in the occipital lobe that developed during convalescence from infectious mononucleosis are reported. Biopsy material showed an inflammatory demyelinating lesion consistent with allergic or postinfectious encephalomyelitis. The various neurological syndromes complicating infectious mononucleosis are probably caused by both infectious and immunologically determined mechanisms.
