A high-resolution parameter estimation technique is used to analyze the spatial dependence of the steady-state vibrations of finite structures. The complex wave-number dependence is extracted using a modified version of the Prony method along with model order overdetermination. This Prony technique forms the basis of an automated algorithm for the robust and efficient estimation of the structural system parameters. A specific algorithm is described and implemented using a wave viewpoint of the spatial response. The algorithm is used to deconvolve the helical wave spectrum of a point driven cylindrical shell from analytic response data. The effects of added noise are studied.
