Volume 12 in theAdvances in Cyclic Nucleotide Researchseries is a collection of written reports corresponding to oral presentations given at the first International Conference on Clinical Aspects of Cyclic Nucleotides held in Vail, Colo, in July 1979. During the last ten to 15 years, alterations in the metabolism of cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) or cyclic guanine monophosphate (cGMP) have been implicated in a number of disease processes. At this conference, investigators presented the most recent data available assessing the role of the cyclic nucleotides in diabetes and other metabolic diseases and in diseases associated with the cardiovascular system, the CNS, exocrine secretion, endocrinology, and immunology. Effects on cell metabolism and cell division were also reported. Few of the reports impinged directly on the field of dermatology. The involvement of cAMP and cGMP in psoriasis and the effects of cAMP on the growth of primary neonatal epidermal cell cultures
