Binary Mixtures of UO ₂ and Other Oxides

Abstract

The phase diagrams of the binary systems containing UO 2 and the oxides MgO, Al 2 O 3 , and BeO have been constructed using (1) the laws of ideal solutions and (2) the approximation that the entropy of fusion of polyatomic molecules is N R , where N is the number of atoms per molecule. Reasonable values of the eutectic composition and temperature and satisfactory agreement with experiment have been obtained.
