Vascularity of the head of the femur is preserved by closed reduction and internal fixation with dynamic hip screw or cannulated screw fixation in fractured neck of the femur in young adults. The fracture is reduced by applying traction through the footplate of the traction table. With an ipsilateral amputation stump, securing the patient on the traction table is difficult. An innovative method of skin traction to the stump to secure the leg to the traction table for maintenance of fracture position is described. This method allows good access to the image intensifier. To our knowledge this method of traction has not been described in English literature.
