Abstract Catalytic hydrolysis of hydrogen cyanide in the gas phase to ammonia is shown to be a practicable method for the removal of this undesirable constituent from hydrogen sulphide concentrates produced from coal gas. Results obtained using various catalysts at 400° are given, and the kinetics of the reaction on alumina in the range 200–300° are described.
