Kaolinitic weathering profiles in Brittany: genesis and economic importance

Abstract

Summary In Brittany, kaolinitic weathering profiles are developed on a variety of sedimentary, metamorphic and igneous rocks. In many places, laterite is associated with ironstone and/or silicified horizons. These profiles developed during the Cretaceous and Eocene, under hot wet climates: some of them are important commercial deposits.
