Abstract A structure analysis of neutron and X-ray diffraction data of liquid methanol was performed by applying a general theoretical procedure for the fluid system composed of molecular clusters. The calculated structure factor curves are found to reproduce the essential features of observed ones. It was concluded that in liquid methanol chain clusters consisting of three or four hydrogen-bonded molecules are dominant on the average.
